Gabbeh
The first gabbehs were woven by the Qashqai nomadic tribes in Iran. The areas in Iran where they are made suffer long harsh winters and very often these rugs are used to sleep on in the tents giving extra warmth and insulation.
Tribal Rugs
Tribal rugs are rugs that were woven by nomadic or semi-nomadic tribal weavers. The tribal people most often associated with weaving rugs are the Turkmen, the Belouch, the Kurds, the Qashqai to name just a few. Tribal rugs are recognizable by their more geometric motifs as opposed to the curvilinear and floral motifs of city rugs.
Kilim
Kilim denotes a pileless textile of many uses produced by one of several flatweaving techniques. Kilims are closely associated with geometrical designs.
